Thoughts following the 2024 Presidential Election….besides the county situation dominated by the Republican party, the Democrats were shut-out in statewide elections when three Republican Supreme Court Judges defeated three Democrat candidates. Current US Senator Sherrod Brown was ousted by Republican Bernie Moreno.

A Democrat led redistricting challenge Issue 1 was defeated as well.

Three Democrat candidates for Celina City Council …all three lost to three Republicans

A change in direction by the party in recent years could be one of the reasons for what is taking place now.

So what has happened to the Democrat Party in Mercer County over the years? It hasn’t always been that way….60 years ago

Note that in 1964 the Democrat Party was dominant in Mercer County elections.

In the 1964 general election for Mercer County Commissioner … both Democrats had over 7,000 votes, to out distance both Republican challengers.

Not a political editorial but based on the ‘actual’ numbers…a complete change in Mercer County politics after 60 years. If there is a solution it might be a real good time for the local Democrat party to start putting it in play.
