CELINA, Ohio (12-18-23) — Mercer County Special Olympics is set to battle the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office with a friendly game of basketball and an evening of competition on January 22nd at the Celina Field House.
Sam Fledderjohann, Mercer County Special Olympics Coordinator
“We have hosted this game for several years on a smaller scale. This year we have decided to bring it to the Field House and create a fun event for all.”
While the game takes place annually, this year’s game has been turned into a larger-scale event at the Celina Field House. The evening will open with the Special Olympics Skills Team, The Wildcats, facing the Mercer County Sheriff Deputies at 6:00pm. An intermission will occur between games at 6:45 with the Special Olympics Cheer Team and Unified Cheer Team performing. The evening will conclude with the annual Bobcats vs. Deputies game at 7:00pm.
Fledderjohann stated-
“While this game doesn’t count toward our official record, its one the players look forward to the most. The comradery that has been built between the Sherriff’s department and our athletes because of this event is outstanding. From a spectator perspective, it’s also really fun to watch.”
The game admission is free, but donations will be accepted for the Mercer County Special Olympics Programming. Concessions will also be available. Radio personality Jonathan Williams from JW Sound & Production will be the official MC of the night.
