This national recognition celebrates nurses who consistently go above and beyond in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to patients and their families while exemplifying the mission and values of Grand Lake Health System.
Chris was nominated by a grateful patient’s family following an experience at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital’s Urgent Care that left a lasting impression. During a busy day in both the Emergency Department and Urgent Care, Chris stood out not only for his clinical expertise but for his exceptional compassion and presence.
From the moment he greeted the patient and her young son, Chris created an environment of comfort and trust. His calm demeanor, attentive listening, and genuine kindness immediately put the family at ease. Despite the fast-paced setting, he ensured they never felt rushed or overlooked, taking the time to engage both the parent and child with empathy and care.
As the visit progressed and the child was diagnosed with RSV, the mother became understandably emotional. In that moment, Chris provided more than medical care- he offered reassurance and understanding. He reminded her she had done everything right and responded with empathy that made a profound difference during a difficult time.
The nomination highlighted Chris’s ability to connect on a personal level, noting how he continued to check in, provide education, and anticipate questions before they were asked. His thoughtful communication and compassionate approach helped turn a stressful situation into one of comfort and confidence.
