(11-3-21) At approximately 2:50 pm Wednesday while on routine patrol, a Hardin County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and being operated recklessly in the vicinity of E. Columbus St., near downtown Kenton.

Upon signaling the driver of the vehicle to stop, a pursuit ensued as the vehicle fled, traveling through several streets and alley ways. The pursuit proceeded onto Oriental Street and onto the practice field north of the Kenton Middle School where a passenger jumped from the moving vehicle, which continued travelling north bound, striking the north ticket booth at Robinson field, crossing over Summit St. and striking the front of the residence at 735 Summit, where the driver exited the vehicle and surrendered to deputies.

During the pursuit, Kenton Schools were advised to lock down and hold students in place. No students or passersby in the community were involved or injured.

The 19-year-old male driver and the passenger were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital for evaluation and later released.

The driver was taken into custody on an Adult Parole Authority Order of Arrest and lodged in the Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion. Charges related to the pursuit are pending as the investigation continues.

Deputies were assisted by the Kenton Police Department, Kenton Fire Department and Osborn Towing and Recovery Service.
