(8-5-26) A few Haitian residents reported to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Blue Ash on Sunday, Aug. 2.

Haitians who reside in Springfield, Ohio and have been receiving “call-in letters” from the Department of Homeland Security in the last two weeks after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowed the Trump administration to end their temporary legal immigration status.

One option for Haitian’s is to wear an ankle monitors…

Philbert Viaud, a Haitian resident of Columbus, left the office with an ankle monitor. Viaud said ICE officials transferred his information to a field office near Columbus and told him to go there for an appointment on Aug. 12. He said he has been applying for asylum for the past four years.

The other option…

Sony Prenice, a Haitian resident, told reporters she was given the option to either wear an ankle monitor or be deported with $2,600. She chose the ankle monitor, which restricts her to a 75-mile radius around her address. To go beyond that, she must call ICE for permission.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said—

“Temporary Protected Status is exactly that — temporary. For too long, TPS has been allowed to function as a de facto amnesty program despite Congress never intending it to be permanent.”
