Expands access to school psychology and sports participation

(Columbus, Ohio) – State Representative Angie King (R-Celina) Wednesday voted in support of Senate Bill 276, legislation to improve public access to school psychological services by facilitating the interstate practice of school psychology in educational or school settings.

Senate Bill 276 includes an amendment related to House Bill 625, championed by Reps. King and Click – the SAM Act – which works to give students the ability to participate in sports not offered at their home school.

In addition to expanding psychological services, Senate Bill 276 would allow students to participate in team sports like baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, or any other sport that requires cooperative participation by multiple students at a neighboring school, if the sport they wish to play is not offered at their current school.

King said-

“The SAM Act puts students first. I’m pleased we were able to fast-track this legislation to expand opportunities for Ohio student-athletes and ensure more students have the chance to compete. This bill ensures that talent, dedication, and hard work, not geography, determine whether a student gets the chance to compete.”

This bill now heads to the Governor for consideration.
