(9-8-26) Labor Day weekend traffic data reflects a marked improvement in roadway safety. Twelve fatal crashes were recorded — a 55.6% reduction from the 27 incidents reported in 2025. Throughout the holiday period, troopers reinforced safe‑driving efforts by issuing 2,136 safety belt citations, 1,525 distracted‑driving citations, and making 426 impaired‑driving arrests along with 70 drug‑related arrests.

The OSHP Labor Day weekend reporting period began at midnight on Friday, Sept. 4 and lasted through the end of the day on Monday.

OSHP said 12 people died in 12 crashes, including at least one crash that was believed to be OVI-related.

Troopers made 426 arrests for impaired driving and 70 arrests for drug-related charges across the four-day weekend.

OSHP said one person who died wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and throughout the period, troopers issued 2,136 safety belt citations.

For the period, troopers responded to 502 crashes, issued 1,525 citations for distracted driving and provided assistance to 1,563 drivers.
