COLUMBUS, OH – (11-19-24) This morning, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown joined Morning Joe to discuss how the Democratic Party needs to once again become the party of workers, and how the party’s failures with working people going back decades are a serious electoral problem. In his race, Senator Brown stayed laser-focused on the Dignity of Work and ran 7.5 points ahead of the national ticket.

Sherrod:

“We’ve got to talk directly to workers. We’ve got to restore the tradition and the history of Democrats being the party of workers, not just union workers, workers – whether you punch a clock or swipe a badge or work for tips or care for an aging parent or are raising children. We’ve got to be that party and focus on the Dignity of Work.

“We didn’t do that over the last thirty years and we paid this price, where far too many workers left the Democrats. As you said I ran 7.5 percent ahead of the national ticket, you can’t do much better than that, but when you have the historic perspective of workers leaving our party you have a serious problem.”

Sherrod

“We [have to] start talking directly to workers – and listen to workers about why they’ve left [the Democratic Party] and where they’ve gone. They don’t necessarily love Trump. They just think that the Democratic brand is so damaged, whether it’s in Missouri or Ohio…. They don’t think we are the party that represents them.”

Sherrod:

“The one thing about worker rights is it binds all of us…. What binds us together is we work…. We should be talking to that…. We should center our discussion on workers.”
