(8-11-23) Two major issues took place this past year that most likely is the reason for a wide-open race for three Celina City Council seats to be filled during the November election. The two issues were on making Celina a sanctuary city of the unborn and the the recent Pride Week held at Lakeshore Park.

Current council member Democrat June Scott has decided not to seek re-election. While current Republican council member Mike Sovinski has decided to abandon his party and is running as an independent, also seeking re-election is Democrat council member Eric Lochtefeld.
First time candidates running for council seats are Republicans Matt Gray, Tom Sanford and Joe Wolfe, plus one Democrat Kyle Bruce.
With six running for the three open spots, the top three with the most votes will be elected.
Council President Jason King, Myron Buxton, Eric Baltzell, Mark Fleck and Eric Clausen are not up for re-election and will remain on council.
