(3-22-23) Two people are confirmed dead after a crash in Shelby County that took place at around 2:30 p.m on Wednesday.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a crash on SR 29 at Blanke Road. The crash was reported around 2:30 p.m., according to initial emergency scanner traffic.
A 2015 Honda CRV was traveling northbound on SR-29 and crossed the center line into the path of a 1989 Chevy Van traveling southbound.
The driver and passenger in the Honda CRV, Richard Girard (66) and Sharon Girard (70) both of Fort Wayne, Indiana were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the 1989 Chevy Van, Jack Smith (66) of Sidney, was transported by New Bremen EMS to Joint Township Hospital in St. Marys and was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he is in critical condition.
Richard and Sharon Girard were taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Officer for an autopsy.
Assisting at the scene were New Bremen EMS, Van Buren Township Fire Department, New Bremen Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation and Shelby County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
