(1-7-23) A Delphos City Schools male elementary student is in police custody yesterday after brandishing a BB gun in the classroom and fleeing the Franklin Elementary (grades Kindergarten-6th) building. There was a short lockdown of the facility, Delphos St. John’s was also included due to its lockdown policy.

The Delphos Police Department was notified and and after locating the unidentified student and the BB gun they were taken into custody.

The student was transported to the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center pending review of charges by the Allen County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.

The student’s name is not being released until he is formally charged.

During this same time period Newport News, Virginia police Virginia police have taken a 6-year-old student into custody after a staff member was injured in a shooting at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News.

In a press conference, police said the shooting was not accidental and that the teacher’s injuries were life-threatening. No students were injured during the incident..
