(9-8-22) The Van Wert Police made an arrest this morning around 7am at the Van Wert County Regional Airport.

Jared V. Collins (45) of Van Wert was driving at a high rate of speed down the airport taxiway. Collins’ red Cadillac had become stuck in a ditch. Collins refused to stop after a warning from police.

Collins admitted to driving on the taxiway because he wanted to see how fast his car would go…claiming that he was going 150 miles per hour. Collins was arrested for OVI (1st degree misdemeanor) . In addition, the investigating officer located a meth pipe.

Collins was transported to the Van Wert police station but would later refuse to leave the processing room go to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility. He was finally taken after that confrontation.

Collins has also been charged with obstructing official business and trespassing on airport property, both second degree misdemeanor, possession of drug paraphernalia, a minor misdemeanor, and reckless operation on private property.

In May of 2021 Collins was arrested on felony weapon charges in Logan County.
