(12-17-21) Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach announced deputies are investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday December 16th. Sheriff Riggenbach stated that his Office received a 911 call at 10:42am advising of a crash on St. Rt. 116 East of Reidenbach Road.

A 2021 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Sara Closson of Delphos, Ohio, and a 1996 International Tractor, driven by Joseph Eilerman, of Elida, Ohio, were involved in the crash.

Based on evidence at the scene, the crash appeared to have happened when the vehicle being driven by Sara Closson ran into the rear of the vehicle being driven by Joseph Eilerman. Both vehicles appeared to be going west bound on St. Rt. 116. The Hyundai Elantra came to rest in the ditch on the North side of St. Rt. 116. The International Tractor came to rest on the roadway. The Hyundai Elantra sustained disabling damage to the vehicle. Both vehicles were towed by the Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra, Sara Closson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Van Wert County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the International Tractor, Joseph Eilerman suffered no apparent injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
