(10-25-21) At approximately 2:03 pm, Sidney Police Officers were made aware that a stolen Richmond Indiana Police Department cruiser was northbound on I-75 from Miami County. The car was at Richmond Mall for officers to conduct a business check at the mall. Gard was not involved in the police business at the mall, took the parked RPD car.

The stolen cruiser was spotted getting off at exit 92 in Sidney and then went east on SR 47. The stolen cruiser was driving recklessly at a high rate of speed, causing a minor accident at Wilkinson St and SR 47. A Sidney Police Officer got behind the stolen vehicle in the downtown area and attempted to maintain a visual contact with the vehicle; however, contact was lost with the vehicle on E.Court St at Brooklyn Ave. A Sidney Officer continued east on SR 29 and found the cruiser had crashed near the railroad overpass near Pasco. A witness near the scene stated that the driver had run south into the wood line.

Sidney Police, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, OSP troopers, and officers from other jurisdictions arrived in the area and set up a perimeter.

The suspect, Timothy Mitchell Gard (32) of Richmond was arrested by Shelby County Deputies in the area of Knoop Johnston Rd.

The Ohio Highway Patrol is handling the investigation. Further information will be provided at a later time.
