Amanda Township (1-16-21) – Tonight at approximately 4:16 P.M the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a tree.
A 2010 Pontiac G-6, operated by Layla N. Yoakam (17) of Wapakoneta, was traveling west on Fort Amanda Rd. when her vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a fence, a pole, and then a tree before overturning.
Yoakam was transported to St. Rita’s Mercy Health by Spencerville EMS where she was pronounced dead. Katelyn Rose (16) of Wapakoneta, was a passenger in the vehicle and was transported by Spencerville EMS to St. Rita’s Mercy Health for serious injuries. She was later transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo where she is listed in critical condition. Seat-belt usage for both occupants are unknown at this time and drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Assisting troopers on scene was the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Spencerville Fire and EMS and Delpha Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
