James Fields, Jr

(8-13-17) 20 year James Fields Jr from Maumee, driving a a 2010 gray Dodge Challenger, drove into a group of Charlottesville, Virginia protesters, killing a 32 year old woman and sending 19 others to area hospitals. Fields has been charged charged with second-degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and one count of failing to stop after an accident that resulted in a death.

“The violence and deaths in Charlottesville strike at the heart of American law and justice. When such actions arise from racial bigotry and hatred, they betray our core values and cannot be tolerated.”

“The Richmond FBI Field Office, the Civil Rights Division, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia have opened a civil rights investigation into the circumstances of the deadly vehicular incident that occurred earlier Saturday morning,” Sessions said in a statement. “The FBI will collect all available facts and evidence, and as this is an ongoing investigation we are not able to comment further at this time.”
