The Wayne County Coroner’s Office is providing an update regarding the death investigation that occurred on 6/24/2026 at Reid Hospital that stemmed from an incident that occurred near the Indiana-Ohio state line.

The decedent has been positively identified by our office as 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧, age 36, of Indianapolis. Next of kin has been notified.

Our thoughts are with Shanae’s family and loved ones as they begin to navigate this unimaginable loss.

Death investigators have confirmed that Ms. Robinson’s death involved foul play. It is believed the incident leading to her death occurred in the area of the Petro Travel Center in New Paris.

At this time, the suspect, Ladavid Shaw, has been arrested and is currently being held in the Preble County Jail on a charge of murder.

This investigation involved the Wayne County Coroner’s Office, Montgomery County Ohio Coroner’s Office, Wayne County Indiana Sheriff’s Office, Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office. We are grateful for the collaboration and professionalism shown by all agencies involved.

On the evening of June 24th, a tragic incident occurred near the Indiana-Ohio border that required the rapid, coordinated response of law enforcement across state lines. Badges don’t stop at the state line, and the seamless collaboration between our team and the Preble County Sheriff’s Office ensured a swift response to a complex scene.

𝗔𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝟴:𝟭𝟱 𝗣.𝗠., our dispatch requested assistance from the Preble County Sheriff’s Office to locate a semi-truck driver suspected of being involved in a fatal crash on the entrance ramp to I-70 West from US 40 right at the Stateline.

Preble County deputies successfully located the male driver at the Petro Truck Stop (9787 US 40 West). During the encounter, the suspect indicated that a female occupant of his truck had been killed. The suspect was detained after resisting arrest and damaging a Preble County cruiser, and he was subsequently transported to Kettering Preble ER for treatment. He currently remains lodged in the Preble County Jail pending formal charges.

Concurrently, Wayne County investigators located a female victim inside the truck at the initial crash scene. An autopsy was conducted today (June 25th) at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, and investigators are working diligently to formally identify her and notify her next of kin.

This remains an active, joint death investigation.
