(5-7-26) Gray Media (Gray Television) has completed two major recent TV station acquisitions in 2026: one from Allen Media Group ($171 million for 10 stations, closed in phases with final closing around May 1, 2026) and one from Block Communications ($80 million, closed May 6, 2026).
Allen Media Group Acquisition (10 stations, $171M + adjustments)
This deal added stations in 10 markets, bringing Gray into three new markets and creating or expanding duopolies in others. It closed in phases (three stations in March 2026, the rest in early May).
Stations acquired include:
• WAAY (ABC) – Huntsville, AL
• WCOV (Fox) – Montgomery, AL
• WEVV (CBS/Fox) – Evansville, IN
• WFFT (Fox) – Fort Wayne, IN
• KADN (Fox/NBC) – Lafayette, LA
• WREX (NBC) – Rockford, IL
• WSIL (ABC) – Harrisburg, IL (Paducah-Cape Girardeau-Harrisburg market)
• WTHI (CBS/Fox) – Terre Haute, IN
• WLFI (CBS) – West Lafayette, IN (Lafayette, IN market)
• WTVA (ABC/NBC) – Columbus-Tupelo, MS
Block Communications Acquisition ($80M)
This added stations in three markets (closed May 6, 2026), including creating a duopoly in Louisville.
Stations/markets added:
• Louisville, KY: WDRB (Fox) and WBKI (CW)
• Springfield-Decatur-Champaign, IL: WAND (NBC)
Lima Stations Acquired
These are the main stations in the Lima, Ohio market (DMA 190) now under Gray Media ownership:
• WLIO (Channel 8): NBC primary affiliate, with Fox/MyNetworkTV on a subchannel. It is the main station and had top ratings in its market.
• WOHL-CD (Channel 35): ABC and CBS affiliations (low-power/Class A station).
• Associated low-power stations: WAMS-LD and WPNM-LD (linked to WLIO).
These stations were previously operated as part of Lima’s “Your Hometown Stations” under Block Communications since 1971.
These deals significantly expand Gray’s portfolio (already one of the largest U.S. local TV owners, with stations reaching a large percentage of households). Earlier 2025 activity included station swaps with Scripps and smaller purchases (e.g., from SagamoreHill), but the 2026 Allen and Block transactions are the most recent major ones.
