(1-24-26) The ICE shooting victim today in Minnesota was Alex Jeffrey Pretti (37) who was a U.S. citizen with no criminal record who in the past has participated in protests opposing President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, according to relatives. His father, Michael Pretti, said his son believed immigration enforcement actions in Minneapolis were unjust and harmful.
In a Colorado Sun story…Pretti’s ex-wife, Rachel N. Canoun, said she was not surprised he would have been involved in protesting Trump’s immigration crackdown. She said she had not spoken to him since they divorced more than two years ago and she moved to another state.
She said he was a Democratic voter and that he had participated in the wave of street protests following the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in 2020, not far from the couple’s neighborhood. She said they often livestreamed what was going on to social media. She described him as someone who might shout at law enforcement officers at a protest, but she had never known him to be physically confrontational.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz went on the attack of ICE agents threatening prosecution of its work and the death of Pretti.

It is ironic that the govenment the tea party feared they now support.

I find it ironic that the looney democrats are the only ones doing these lawless nonsense things and they are paying the price for it take a weapon to a federal operation of deporting criminals leads to bad things or trying to run over them.

ICE operation makes the difference. Anything else —- not so much.

Regardless of how the details pan out, breaking the law and resisting arrest can get you arrested, hurt, or killed. Impeding, threatening or injuring law enforcement is not protesting, it is anarchy. It’s sad that this man died, but bad decisions can get you killed.

Bad decisions for sure. Here are the questions:
Was there only one person that made a bad decision?
Do citizens have the right to protest?
Do citizens have the rights to bear arms?
Did law enforcement inform Pretti that he was under arrest?

The answer to the first 3 questions are a definite yes. As for the 4th question, i don’t know, but Pretti made physical contact with ICE agents twice, which is impeding law enforcement, and then he resisted arrest. While he was resisting, another ICE officer removed the gun from him. Pretti’s gun went off accidentaly while the ICE officer was walking away. Pretti reached around his side while he was resisting. The officers, not knowing if Pretti had another weopon or not, reacted to this threat and shot him. It is within the law that if a law enforcement officer’s life is in danger, they are allowed to defend themselves.
Protesting does not mean you can impede law enforcement, block traffic, or destroy property. So Pretti went beyond protesting and broke the law, then he resisted arrest, and unfortuately, got killed because of it.

Interesting. You write that you don’t know if Pretti was informed he was under arrest but yet you write, “Protesting does not mean you can impede law enforcement, block traffic, or destroy property. So Pretti went beyond protesting and broke the law, then he resisted arrest, and unfortuately, got killed because of it.”
What does the videos show regarding the following:
Impeding law enforcement—- he was assisting a women back to her feet after she was shoved down by a Border Patrol agent,
Block traffic — video shows him directing traffic not blocking it.
Destroying property —no video proof of that at all.
“So Pretti went beyond protesting and broke the law”. Video does not support that.
“He then resisted arrest”. How does one resist arrest if you are not informed you are under arrest?
Finally, contact was made between Pretti and the agent but who intiated the contact?
A number of bad decisions lead up to this event including placing ICE and Border patrol in situations they were not properly trained for.

Impeding law enforcement – He was assisting someone else who was also breaking the law and impeding their operation. He was also caught on camera destroying property. He has also been involved in previous “protests”
“So Pretti went beyond protesting and broke the law”. Block traffic — Directing traffic for whom?
I said I don’t know if he was told he was under arrest. Can you prove that he wasn’t told? There was too much chaos that if he was told, it may not be heard on the video. So are you saying that a police officer must tell someone they are under arrest before taking steps to defend their life? Maybe their lives were not in danger, but they had enough reason to believe they were, and that is what the law requires.
And you want to talk about mistakes, what about the mistake of letting millions of unvetted immigrants to illegally enter our country? Now the Trump administration is doing something about it. Sometimes cleaning up the mess looks much worse than the mess until it is cleaned up. What is really puzzling though, is that Chuck Shumer, the Clintons, Obama, were all in favor of deporting illegals until Trump wanted to do it. TDS? And when they deported illegals, there was no violence to citizens because there were no “protesters” getting in the way of law enforcement.
I suggest you watch this analysis by Liz Wheeler.
