(9-1-22) Celina High School senior Jaydon Harting, son of Dan and Linda Harting of Celina, was recently selected to be a member of the Ohio Music Education Association All-State Jazz Ensemble. Jaydon was selected by audition from among a pool of students from the entire state of Ohio, and will be performing with the All-State Jazz Ensemble at the OMEA Professional Development Conference in Columbus on Saturday February 4, 2023.
Jaydon has been a member of the Celina High School Jazz Combo since its inception in 2020, and was selected by audition for the OMEA District 3 Honors Jazz Band for the 2021-22 school year. He can also be heard performing around the area as half of the jazz duo “Nick and Jay Jazz,” along with 2022 Celina graduate Nicholas Forlow. The duo recently performed at St. Marys SummerFest with St. Marys drummer Dane Newlove and Van Wert bassist Rod Sroufe, and have been invited to perform at the Nighswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert prior to a concert featuring internationally-known jazz saxophonist Grace Kelly on Friday September 23, 2022. Jaydon is set to begin studying privately with Ohio Northern University professor of saxophone Dr. Andrew Liebermann later this month.
Jaydon expressed his gratitude for this opportunity, saying-
“Jazz for me has been an outlet to express my true self, and I am beyond grateful to be able to share that with others. I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today without the help and encouragement of Mr. Sellars and all of my past teachers.”
Celina Band Director Chuck Sellars said of Harting’s selection-
“This honor could not come to a more deserving person. Super-talented, tremendous work ethic, kind, humble, and the definition of a gentleman. He’s the real deal, and I’m proud to be able to claim him as one of my students.”
