Vicky White, the Alabama corrections officer who helped Casey White escape from jail, has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Her autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.

Casey White and corrections officer Vicky White are in custody, and she is hospitalized with injuries sustained in a chase. They were taken into custody after a chase in Evansville, Indiana when their vehicle crashed,

, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding said Vicky White had shot herself and is being taken to a hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Casey White is in custody.

(5-2-22) Vicky White, an assistant director of corrections at the Lauderdale County (Alabama) jail, and Casey Cole White, a man who was incarcerated on capital murder charges, have been missing since they left the jail Friday morning at 9:41 a.m. The two are not related.

Ms White said she was taking him to a mental evaluation, but officials later realized it had not been scheduled.

Authorities are investigating whether Ms White helped the inmate escape, or if she was taken hostage by him.

US Marshal Marty Keely said in a statement-

Casey White is believed to be a serious threat to the corrections officer and the public.”

White (38) was charged with two counts of capital murder in September 2020 over the stabbing of Connie Ridgeway (38). He was already serving time for a series of crimes in 2015, including burglary, vehicle theft, and a police chase.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said Ms White has been with the department for about 25 years. She is the assistant director of corrections, and part of her role involves arranging courthouse transportation.

Her decision to take the prisoner to the courthouse by herself violated policy, s someone charged with such a severe crime would normally be accompanied by two deputies.
