(12-21-21) 2022 will see some changes in the Celina City Schools, a new District Treasurer and a new Board of Education President. Last night was the last BOE meeting of 2021.
Earlier this year Tom Sommer decided to resign as the the system’s Treasurer.
Sommer was named Treasurer in June of 2016 and started on August 1st 2016. Before taking over the Celina position he was the Treasurer at the St. Marys Schools and also had been an Auditor with the State of Ohio.
Starting on January 1st Darren Jenkins will start as the new Celina Schools Treasurer. Jenkins was the Superintendent of Schools at the Bellaire Local School District until July 31st, 2021.
Jenkins told the Wheeling News Register:
“Yes, I would agree that the majority of the Board did not want me to return as superintendent. However, they also didn’t abide by some of the provisions of my contract, evaluation for example. I had never been evaluated since I came here as my contract requires. So in order to avoid a potential dispute over issues, the board and I reached a separation agreement. Part of that agreement was me submitting a resignation.”
Jenkins was hired as the Bellaire superintendent of the district in 2015 after serving as interim superintendent and treasurer.
Last night was the last meeting for BOE President and board member Craig Flack. Flack was sworn in as a Celina City Schools Board of Education member in June of 2020 Board members last week appointed Flack to fill the unexpired term of Matt Gilmore..
Flack did not run for re-election in November, he will be replaced at the January 2022 meeting by Mark Huelsman who ran for the open seat.
