UPDATED – 7-14-21 – The following update is from Sheriff Jeff Grey in an email reply to our request –

This case is still active and under investigation. For the integrity of the investigation, we are releasing no further details at this time.

(7-13-21) One year ago this week the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office announced they were investigating the death of 2 year old Ezra Siegrist. Ezra died February 12th, 2020 at a residence on South High Street in Montezuma.

An autopsy performed by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office lists Ezra’s death as methamphetamine intoxication and blunt forced trauma to the head. The death certificate lists Ezra’s death as a homicide.

There has been no update on this case and many who were close to Ezra in recent days are wondering when they will hear of any progress in the case.

A change.org petition has had over 4,700 signatures – www.change.org/JusticeForEzra

This petition is asking Mercer County to take Ezra’s murder case to the grand jury again and to ask them to hand down indictments for capital murder due to Ezra being a special victim under the age of 13 in the State of Ohio.

This is the second Mercer County questionable death that has drawn attention due to suspicious circumstances, the other being that of Tre’ Billger.
