(5-28-21) Today at the Allen County Court House the jury deliberated for just four hours after hearing closing arguments in the trial of a Lima woman, Cheyenne Hooper (23)…who was facing two charges involving the abuse of her 7-month old daughter Lyla Stratton.
The jury in a split verdict…found Hooper not guilty to one charge of felonious assault, but found her guilty to the charge of endangering children. Both are 2nd degree felony charges.
A pre-sentence investigation was ordered by the judge in the case. No sentencing date has beem set. She remains free on bond with certain stipulations.
During the trial Hooper claimed that the injuries her daughter sustained on March 13, 2019 were from when she fell off of a bed and hit her head on the ground at the family’s home.
Stratton suffered what two medical experts, Dr. Catherine Huber, a child abuse pediatrician at Children’s Hospital and Dr. Randall Schlievert, director of the child abuse program at Mercy Heath in Toledo, described the injuries as abusive head trauma.
