(12-10-20) Mercer County Sheriff, Jeff Grey reports that his office received a call at 7:16 PM from a worker at S & K Products on Us Rte. 127. The worker advised that there was a male in front of the business that was stealing metal products out of their recycle bins. Deputies Spencer Heinl and Jessica Clune responded to the call and when they arrived, a male took off running on foot. Deputies were able to catch the male a short time later. Deputies found that the male had an estimated $1,000.00 worth of stolen metal products loaded onto his truck.
Grey advised that the deputies arrested Joseph Paul Bishop (38) of 101 Maplelawn Drive Dayton, Ohio. Bishop was booked into the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility on charges of Theft (Misdemeanor of the first degree), Criminal Trespass (Misdemeanor of the fourth degree) and Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor of the second degree). Grey advised that Bishop’s bond was set at $100,000,.00 subject to 10% by Celina Municipal Court Judge Kathryn Speelman.
Grey advised that deputies learned that two prior thefts had occurred where the same truck was involved. Those incidents occurred on November the 26th, 2020 and December 6th, 2020. Those thefts are remain under investigation at this time. Grey further stated that the suspects truck was towed from the scene and deputies will be applying for a search warrant on the vehicle. At this time this case remains under investigation.
Grey compliments the owners and workers of the business for being vigilant and quickly calling his office. Grey advised that they were able to provide good information to the responding deputies. Grey reminds citizens not to confront suspects in these types of situations. Grey advised that the information that was provided by the callers is just as valuable.
