(10-14-20) Two high profile court cases have been rescheduled in Jay Circuit Court.
The trial for Shelby Hiestand will now have her case in the January murder of Shea Briar to be heard the week of May 17-20 in Jay Circuit Court after a motion for continuance was made. It is the second time her trial has been changed , the first was in June and the second was to be held in mid-November.
Two other suspects in the murder are awaiting their trials, Esther Stephen and Hannah Knapke, January 11-14 and February 21-12, 2021.
All three suspects remain in the Jay County Jail without bond.
The other case that has been rescheduled, for March 1st-and 2nd, 2021, is that of Jennifer Young (35) of Portland. Young is charged with a 1st degree Felony in neglect of a dependent (her 3-month old son Hayden) resulting in the death, she also faces two drug related charges. The father of the baby, Ryan Markle, is scheduled for a January 4th and 5th, 2021 trial.
Hayden’s cause of death was listed in the autopsy as “Acute methamphetamine intoxication“. The infant died this past March.
