(9-4-20) A Cleveland police officer, Detective James Skernivitwas, was killed in the line of duty last night in the Cleveland Stockyard neighborhood.
The shooting took place between 9:30 and 10 p.m. in the area of W. 65th St. and Storer Avenue. A second person was also killed; the police don’t believe the other victim was a suspect.
Skernivitwas was taken to MetroHealth hospital and was pronounced dead.
James Skernivitz (53) was a 25-year veteran of the Cleveland Police Department. Skernivitz had just been sworn into the federal task force.
The suspect in the shooting has not been arrested and urges anyone with information to call 9-1-1 or the Cleveland Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.
