(8-26-20) On August 25, 2020 at approximately 3:56pm, a female wanted for multiple active arrest warrants was involved in a serious bodily injury crash after leaving her residence at a high rate of speed. It is believed that the female was attempting to evade capture by Adams County Sheriff Deputies.

Barbara A. Pfeiffer (44) of rural Adams County, Indiana, left her residence at a very high rate of speed northbound on CR 200 E, while Deputy Heckard was in the area surveilling the residence. Deputy Heckard activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to catchup with Pfeiffer. Deputy Heckard estimated her vehicle speed at 100 mph. Before Deputy Heckard was able to catch up to the vehicle, Pfeiffer disregarded the stop-sign controlling northbound traffic on CR 200 E at the intersection of US 33 and CR 200 E. Pfeiffer’s vehicle left the roadway entering a very steep and wide ditch located on the northeast corner of this intersection, striking a fence and coming to rest after colliding with a large tree. Pfeiffer was entrapped inside the vehicle while sustaining serious bodily injuries.

Deputy Heckard immediately contacted the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch requesting Emergency Medical Services and First Responders to the scene. Ms. Pfeiffer was airlifted by helicopter and flown to a nearby hospital.

Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be factors in the crash. Vehicle speed was estimated at 100mph.

The investigation is still on going.

Deputies were assisted by the Indiana State Police, Decatur Police Department, Decatur Fire Department and Adams County Emergency Medical Services.
