(8-27-18) On Sunday, August 26, 2018, at about 9:55 pm, officers from the Celina Police Department responded to a report of a car in the lake just off of the intersection of Lakeshore Dr. and Ash St. Upon arrival they found a 2009 Nissan Altima in the water, partially submerged. The driver, 61 year old David H. Szwajkowski of Schererville, Indiana, was out of the car, but, still in the water. He was pulled from the water by a responding officer. He was uninjured.
Szwajkowski stated he thought he was in a turnaround area when he drove into the water. Mr. Szwajkowski submitted to field sobriety testing and subsequently a breath test. He tested .172 BAC, over twice the legal limit. He was arrested and charged with OVI and held at the Mercer County Adult Detention Center.
