(7-19-18) Renee Carpenter organizes programs for 10—18 year old kids at the Mercer County District Library. To understand the interests of this age group, she supervises the Teen Advisory Board. This group of young volunteers meets regularly to suggest teen programs, encourage teen reading, and help design an appealing teen area. This summer’s teen reading program was “Libraries Rock!” Other programs were a mineral presentation, a Ghost Hunter, a coloring contest, and Science Central. A family friendly activity aimed at older children is the Escape Box. Participants solve puzzles to open a box in a certain amount of time. Clues are hidden around the library. Summer programs will end with a Finale Party on July 20.

After Carpenter’s presentation, President J.T. Irmscher passed around thank you notes from Celina Kiwanis scholarship recipients. The chapter voted to donate $50 to Big Brothers/Big Sisters and $100 to the Mercer County Sportsman Association’s Youthfest. Members have also collected childcare items for C.A.L.L. Ministries. The club sent Hans Rehrmann and Linda Goodwin to the Division 2 meeting in Delphos. Plans are being finalized for the club’s Lake Festival stand. The Kiwanis Club of Celina meets at noon every Wednesday at CJ’s Highmarks. For more information about the club, find them on Facebook or at
