On Saturday, May 5, 2017 the JTD Hospital Foundation held its fifth annual Landen’s 5K, a run/walk for SIDS awareness in St. Marys, Ohio.  With many avid runners and walkers and skies filled with sunshine, this family friendly event was off to a great start.  All in attendance were there in support of raising awareness about SIDS and Safe Sleep. This uplifting family friendly event is also held annually to provide a yearly $1,000 nursing scholarship to someone from our community in memory of little Landen Phlipot.

The day began with the playing of the Star Spangled Banner followed by race instructions from Committee Chair, Tracy Smith.  Can’t Stop Timing Co. provided the chip timing service for the 5K and created a fun atmosphere for our participants.  Information regarding Safe Sleep was provided prior to the race to the crowd by Amy Becker, Manager of the Birthing Center at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.  Along the race route our runners and walkers were also able to read facts about SIDS and Safe Sleep.  Overall male winner was Craig Stuttler with a time of 18:51.6.  Overall female winner was Jill Engel with a time of 23:59.7.  Adult School Challenge Champions were from St. Marys Middle School and included Mary Miller, Liz Hinker, Mariah Krugh, and Krissy Frye.  Student Team Challenge Champions included Ft. Loramie Elementary and Minster Elementary Schools.  Other medals were awarded to the top three places in male and female finisher by age group.
