(4-25-18) Barb Lockwood always wanted to open a bakery. She dreamed about making pies, cakes, cookies and other delicious treats as she worked at the Shell gas station. Armed with old family recipes, she believed she could make a success of the endeavor. Finally she took the plunge and opened Cakes By Design. Located at 217 E. Market St., her shop offers not only cakes but also cookies, pies, cinnamon rolls and other treats. She adds new items every week. Besides desserts, Lockwood sells local honey, specialty soaps, and other local products. As the perfect ending to her presentation, Lockwood treated club members to samples of her goodies.
