(10-20-26) The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that happened Monday, October 19, 2026, at the intersection of Miami Shelby and River Roads.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2000 Jeep driven by Jeffrey Griffieth (55) was traveling westbound on Miami Shelby Road when it failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection. The Jeep was struck by a 2008 Ford traveling southbound on River Road, driven by Ronald Satterwhite (35).
Following the collision, the Jeep traveled off the southwest corner of the intersection and overturned several times. A passenger, Joseph Griffieth (23) was ejected from the Jeep and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Jeffrey Griffieth, Ron Satterwhite, Sarah Allen and four juveniles were transported by Piqua Rescue to Upper Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The Lockington, Sidney and Piqua Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
