(9-30-26) Ohio House Bill 519 has passed, suspending the state’s gas tax for 90 days to provide relief from rising fuel prices. This bipartisan measure aims to alleviate financial pressure on consumers amid increasing costs at the pump.

In an emergency session Wednesday, Ohio’s legislators voted to lower the gas tax to essentially $0 for 90 days. The tax, which is used to fund Ohio’s roads and state highway patrol, is 38.5 cents per gallon of gas and 47 cents per gallon of diesel.
The bill passed as an emergency, meaning it will go into effect immediately once the Governor DeWine signs it. The bill passed 26-5 in the Senate and 78-16 in the House.
Despite previous reservations toward a gas tax pause, a spokesperson for Gov. Mike DeWine confirmed that he will sign the bill into law.
