Gov. DeWine: “No one overblew it. Facts are facts. These are not good situations, and they are anti-democratic.”

COLUMBUS, OH– Yesterday, Governor Mike DeWine blatantly rebuked the online lies being circulated by Vivek Ramaswamy’s allies about the “reprehensible” security incident involving Dr. Amy Acton at the Canfield Fair. While Ramaswamy refuses to condemn the malicious lies, Governor DeWine called the conspiracies “a bunch of garbage,” and said that “campaigns, candidates running for office have the right to go out and talk to people.”
As a reminder, Ramaswamy has been spewing violent rhetoric for months. He has repeatedly falsely labeled Dr. Acton a socialist and recently told a crowd that the Second Amendment should be used to fight socialism.

- Gov. Mike DeWine called the recent security incident involving Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton “reprehensible” and panned online chatter that accused the campaign of overblowing it.
- Since then, some conservative online influencers have accused Acton’s campaign of misrepresenting what happened.
- “That’s a bunch of garbage,” DeWine told reporters Sept. 9. “No one overblew it. Facts are facts. These are not good situations, and they are anti-democratic.”
- “Campaigns, candidates running for office have the right to go out and talk to people,” DeWine said. “It’s one of the things we cherish. It’s very, very important. Anything that interferes with that is bad.”
REMINDER: Ramaswamy Has Spent His Campaign Spewing Violent Rhetoric
- In his stump speech, Ramaswamy regularly brands Acton a socialist, a label she rejects. “I’m running against a woman who would be, God forbid, the first socialist governor this state has ever seen in our history,” he said Sunday in an appearance at the Great Geauga County Fair in Burton.
- His rhetoric has taken darker turns. In an address last month to the Buckeye Firearms Association Patriot Fest in Hilliard, Ohio, he said: “The Second Amendment was made for times such as these, was made for generations like the one that I live in today. Socialism is back in America with a vengeance.”
