(4-28-26) Samantha Huffine (36) of Decatur faces charges of auto theft, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and resisting law enforcement using a vehicle.

Details/Summary:
On Monday, April 27ᵗʰ, 2026, around 3:10 p.m., officers with Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) were dispatched to a report of an unwanted person at a residence in the 1000 block of Columbia Ave. Upon arrival, officers made contact with an adult female (Huffine) who appeared incoherent. After an on-scene investigation, officers determined that no crime had occurred and released her.
Shortly after being released, the Huffine entered an unsecured FWPD marked patrol vehicle and drove it away from the scene.
Officers initiated a brief vehicle pursuit, which concluded when the female crashed the stolen patrol vehicle into another vehicle at the intersection of E. State and St. Joseph Boulevards.
Both the female and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital. No serious injuries have been reported.
This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office. There is no further information available at this time.
