(12-29-23) Today Ohio Republican Governor Mike DeWine vetoed House Bill 68, despite his party’s easily passing it and sending it to him to sign into law. DeWine during his time in the Governor’s Office has sided with the Democrats several times…including a veto of Senate Bill 22 in 2021 during the COVID 19 pandemic.

In a Tweet today Ohio State Rep Angie King (R-Celina) says that she supports overriding the Governor’s veto to make the bill a law.

Senate President Matt Huffman

“I’m extremely disappointed by the Governor’s veto. Changes were made to the bill to accommodate his concerns, and the bill was strongly supported in the Senate by the Republican Caucus. Overrides to a veto must start in the chamber where the bill originated. We look forward to the House taking the next step.”

State Rep. Adam Bird (R-New Richmond)

“I’ve already texted the Speaker. I am strongly advocating for an override vote as quickly as possible. I believe that it’s imperative that we as a general assembly protect our Children from gender mutilation surgery. I think it’s imperative that we protect our girls that are playing in sports. They should have the right and the ability to play in sports with their own gender. We should not be having boys play in girls sports, and this is common sense.”
