(3-30-23) Another major US train derailment took place early this morning in Raymond, Minnesota. Major derailments have taken place over the past two months in East Palestine, Ohio, this past weekend in Wyndmere,North Dakota and several other locations.

An evacuation order is in place for Raymond, which is located in Kandiyohi County Thursday morning after a fiery train derailment.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office says a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train had numerous cars derail on the western edge of the city but within the city limits at around 1:00. Several of the derailed tankers started on fire and determined to be carrying a form of ethanol, and others contained a corn syrup liquid. Raymond is approximately 20 minutes southwest of Willmar. Highway 23 is closed in both directions from Kandiyohi County Road 1 to Chippewa County Road 1. The highway runs through the middle of the city of fewer than 800 people.

Fire departments from Raymond and numerous other cities responded to the scene. Firefighters, paramedics and law enforcement assisted in evacuating the city within a half mile of the derailment site. Residents were instructed to leave their homes, and an emergency shelter was set up at the Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg. It will be later moved to Unity Church, also in Prinsburg.

The site remains active as the fire is contained.
