CELINA, Ohio, Dec. 6, 2022 — Celina Insurance Group recently finished a complete redesign of its main parking lot, creating a more environmentally friendly block that contributes to the beautification of downtown Celina.

Work began earlier this year and coincided with the city’s reconstruction of Fulton Street, which borders Celina Insurance Group to the north. Garmann Miller provided design services, H.A. Dorsten served as the contractor and Dicke’s Lawn Service provided landscaping services. Construction took approximately six months to finish, but planning began nearly two years ago.

Bill Montgomery, Celina’s President and CEO

“Our parking lot was due for a simple resurfacing project, but we believe in making a difference whenever we can and doing right by the community. We decided to take the opportunity to redo the lot to create a greener space that would help beautify our hometown. That the city’s street reconstruction lined up with our plans was an added benefit, as it minimized the disruption to employees.”

In addition to grass, shrubs and ground cover plants, 38 trees were planted in and around the new parking lot. Beyond their aesthetic value, the trees will provide environmental benefits as they mature. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, trees can help prevent heat islands, improve air quality, lower greenhouse gas emissions, enhance stormwater management and improve quality of life.

The lot includes the necessary infrastructure to allow for the easy installation of electric vehicle charging stations in the future. It also features a permanent bike rack and pedestrian walkways. To enhance safety and accessibility, the project incorporated additional lights and handicapped-accessible parking spaces.
