(9-24-22) Below is a statement on an upcoming ballot issue in November from Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey.
Mercer County has a continuation of the 1/2 percent SALES TAX on the ballot in November. For 50 cents on $100 dollars of taxable items, Mercer County generates $3,500,000 per year to fund your Sheriff’s OffIce Jail. The jail/building is paid for. The money pays employees, pays upkeep on the building, and other important functions of your Sheriff’s Office. This is NOT a tax increase, it is a continuation. This money is used to help keep our citizens safe. This a SALES Tax, so every time you see an out of county or out of state person spending money here, they are helping fund your safety.
