(7-27-22) Jay County teen Daryll Bledsoe Jr. (13) drowned in a rural Pennville retention pond on Tuesday night at 8:45 p.m. at 5670 N. 650 West.

Emergency personnel responded to the call regarding a drowning victim. Bledsoe had been fishing in a neighbor’s pond with his cousin Patrick O’Brien (12). Bledsoe ventured into the pond to retrieve the lure and started sinking. Others at the pond attempted to help Bledsoe, but were unsuccessful and made the called to 911.

Jay County deputy coroner Jessica Ooten decided hot to have an autopsy done, noting that there were several witnesses to the incident and that there were no signs of foul play.

Local agencies that responded to the call include Jay County Rescue, Jay County Sheriff ’s Office and Portland and Pennville fire departments.
