(5-28-22) Degan Davidson (16) of Markle, Indiana was killed when the vehicle he was riding in left a Wells County road, went airborne and rolled late over several times Thursday at around 11:15 p.m. just outside of Bluffton.

Derek Winebrenner (20) of Bluffton was driving west on 200 North in a 2006 BMW when it went to pass a vehicle at a high rate of speed. Winebrenner did not see an oncoming vehicle, and swerved quickly back, almost hitting the oncoming vehicle.

Winebrenner lost control of the BMW, which veered off the south side of the roadway. It then went airborne and rolled multiple times.

Winebrenner and Davidson, who was a passenger, were both thrown from the vehicle.

Davidson was pronounced dead at the scene. Winebrenner was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital. His condition has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wells County Sheriff’s Office.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time with the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton.

It has been a long couple of weeks for the Davidsons, Degan’s brother was in a serious dirtbike accident that caused a major spine injury after overshooting a jump on May 17th. Seth had major surgery and now has started the rehabilitation process. Degan was also a well known participant in dirtbike racing.
