(5-17-22) Portland residents Nancy J. LeMaster and her parents, Betty E. and Paul W. LeMaster all died after a Waste Management garbage truck crashed into the vehicle (2000 GMC Jimmy West) they were driving. The accident took place at the intersection of Indiana 67 and County Road 75 South around 9:50 a.m. Monday morning near Jay County High School.



LeMaster was driving on County Road 75 South and stopped at the intersection with Indiana 67. She began turning south onto the highway and her vehicle went in front of an oncoming 2018 Mack LR garbage truck driven by Zachery E. Montgomery (36) of Hartford City. The garbage truck hit LeMaster’s car, and it rolled onto its side, trapping her and passengers Betty and Paul LeMaster inside. Nancy and Betty LeMaster were pronounced dead at the scene. Paul LeMaster was transported to IU Health Jay, where he passed away.

Montgomery was not injured in the crash.

An autopsy on Nancy LeMaster is scheduled for Wednesday. Indiana State Police are conducting an investigation into the accident.
