CELINA – As of December 15, 2021, the Mercer County Health District (MCHD) reports 5,909 confirmed cases, 1,301 probable cases, 5,585 recovered cases, 10 known hospitalizations, 109 COVID-19 deaths, and 22 probable deaths of COVID-19 among Mercer County residents. In addition, there have been 71 confirmed cases who have passed away due to causes other than COVID-19. Under the use of MCHD’s internal reinfection protocol, there have been 82 reinfections of COVID-19 out of the cumulative total of confirmed cases. Today, there are 152 known active cases of COVID-19 in Mercer County.

There have been 134 confirmed and 42 probable cases of COVID-19 among fully vaccinated Mercer County residents. Of those individuals, 23 were hospitalized and have since recovered. Six have passed away.

The transmission rate of COVID-19 in Mercer County continues to be high. A high transmission rate is defined as 100 or more new cases per 100,000 people in a 7-day period or a test positivity rate of 10% or higher. Mercer County has seen 388 cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days and has a test positivity rate of 20.29%. As the holiday season approaches, MCHD continues to encourage community members to be mindful in taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other seasonal viruses. The MCHD advises individuals to maintain good hygiene practices, stay home when sick, and avoid crowded indoor places.

The MCHD continues to offer the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for first, second, third, and booster doses by appointment at the health department.
