(12-9-21) The Allen County Sheriff’s Office, responded on Monday evening to the report of an assault and burglary in the 2700 block of Lowell Avenue in Lima.

The alleged victim, a 41-year-old male, told deputies he was asleep on his couch at about 8:20 p.m. Monday when he awoke to being assaulted by a man later identified as Craig A. Hirschy (33) of Van Wert. Hirschy had entered the home through an unlocked door.

The unidentified victim said Hirschy pinned him to his couch and repeatedly struck him with a closed fist. Hirschy then demanded access to the victim’s cell phone message history. The victim said he believed the assault stemmed from a relationship they both shared with a female acquaintance.

Hirschy then left the residence and was later picked up on Tuesday and taken into custody in Mercer County for an unrelated aggravated menacing (Misdemeanor-1st Degree) charge. After being held at the Mercer County Adult Detention Center, he was transferred back into Allen County custody today.

Hirschy has been formally charged in Allen County with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony.
