(7-2-21) The Botkins Police Department, along with help from other law enforcement agencies pursued Ilyaz A. Gafurov (26) for more than two hours Thursday.

He appeared via video arraignment today in Sidney Municipal Court and was charged with criminal trespass, resisting arrest, obstructing official business and escape.

His bond has been set at $35,000.

The Botkins Police Department received a call just after 1 p.m. Thursday about a man walking through a bean field on the south side of East South Street in Botkins. The officers would locate Gafurov sitting in the southeast corner of the Budget Host Inn.

When the officers attempted to identify Gafurov, he struggled with officers, breaking away and took off.

Two Taser attempts failed to stop him and he would continue through several yards before running into a wooded area south of the motel.

K-9 officers were called in to search the inside of the wooded area after officers failed to find him. Two hours into the incident, Gafurov would come out of the wooded area where he was apprehended.

Gafurov was taken to Wilson Health for further medical evaluation for heat related injuries and for further medical evaluation. After his release from the hospital, he was taken to the Shelby County Jail.

Botkins Police Department were assisted by Anna Police, Jackson Center Police and K-9, Ohio Highway Patrol, Sidney Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and drone, Wapakoneta Police Department and Anna Rescue.
