(11-23-20) On Saturday November 21, 2020 at approximately 10:48 p.m., Deputies of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office along with Emergency Service personnel were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle crash that occurred in the area of US 33 and CR 600 E that resulted serious bodily injury.
Upon arrival, Deputies and a Trooper with the Indiana State Police located an overturned red 1997 Dodge Neon in an agricultural field just southeast of the intersection of U.S. Highway 33 and CR 600 E. The driver, who was the lone occupant, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Lutheran Hospital via EMS where he is listed in critical condition at this time.
The initial investigation by Adams County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, suggests that the vehicle was traveling northwest on US 33 near CR 600 E in the area of a curve, when for an unknown reason, the overall handling of the vehicle became affected. Evidence at the scene indicates that the vehicle entered a skid, crossed the opposite direction lane of travel, entered the ditch on the southwest side of US 33, traveled a distance across a residential yard, and then came to rest in a cut bean field (overturned).
The driver was a identified as a 16-year-old Decatur, IN resident. The parents of the individual have been notified.
The investigation is still on going.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Indiana State Police, Decatur Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department, and Adams County Emergency Medical Services.
