(8-18-200 On August 15, 2020, that Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office deputies served a search warrant at 22384 Carpenter Road, Delphos. Tthe search warrant was the result of an investigation into alleged underage consumption/drug activity at the property.

Sheriff Riggenbach stated his office had received numerous complaints about illegal activity taking place at this property. At the time, the search warrant was executed a party of approximately 150-200 people were found on the property, along with multiple vehicles. Alcoholic beverages and evidence of drug use were present in the building where the party was taking place.

Deputies identified more than 90 underage persons under the influence of alcohol. Several of them were juveniles under the age of 18. Deputies conducted portable breath tests and field sobriety tests on the individuals. A large number of attendee’s over the age of 21 were identified and released.

The investigation is continuing, and all charges will be sent to the law director for review. Additional people may be charged during the investigation.

A nuisance abatement letter would be sent to the property owner to make him aware of what occurred on this property. The purpose of the nuisance abatement letter is to make the property owner aware of alleged illegal activity occurring within the owner’s property. A nuisance abatement letter directs property owner to take action in the hopes of abating any future illegal activity. The law does allow for the seizure of property, if the property owner knowingly permits illegal activity to continue within their property.
