(3-7-20) It was a tragic day for the residents of Minster on a Sunday night in 1976 when eight teens lost their lives in a accident on a side road near Maria Stein.
They were in a nine car caravan headed to Celina for a dance at the Carousel Ballroom outside of Celina…they never arrived. The accident happened when they were struck by a car as they stopped and all of the teens were standing by the side of the road at the intersection of of Ft. Recovery-Minster Road and Rolfes Road.
Moments later they were hit by a car coming over a hill on the road.
On that night in March forty-four year ago…. Kenneth Sommer (15), Scott Westerheide (15), Joy Brandewie (14), Rebecca Moorman (15), Lester Ranly (16), Barbara Olding (14), Michael Kemper (17) and Anthony Kemper (17) had their lives ended.
The news of the accident went across the country and was on all three major TV networks. The day is long remembered in both Auglaize and Mercer Counties.
