(1-3-20) Nathan Baltzell (35) of Rockford is in the Mercer County Jail on a 1st degree misdemeanor charge of arson and is being held on a $25,000 bond (10%) pending an appearance in Municipal Court..
Baltzell is accused of setting his step-daughter’s backpack of clothes on fire in her basement bedroom and leaving the family’s residence (6100 block of State Route 117) on New Year’s eve just before 6:30 pm,. No one was injured in the fire, which was extinguished by the Mendon Fire Department before they arrived.
